Step Tomo is a little walking friend for iPhone and Apple Watch: an egg that hatches on your first walk and grows with every step you take together.

A small egg is waiting for you. Take it for a walk and it hatches, and who's inside is a surprise: a sprout, a little flame, a patient traveller, a round blue bird or a pup. Your new friend lives on your everyday steps and grows through three stages as the days go by. It keeps a cozy house on a floating island, trots beside you along rice terraces and under red torii, and waves hello from your Apple Watch.

Step Tomo is a step counter with a heart. Instead of a number to beat, there is a small friend waiting for your walks. Tomo (友) means "friend" in Japanese, and the whole world feels like a picture book: cherry blossom, red torii, stone lanterns and a mountain on the horizon.

It begins with an egg. Take it on a short walk and it cracks open, and who's inside is a surprise. It might be Sprig, a sprout who blooms at full size; Kindle, a little flame; Trundle, a patient traveller who becomes the Wanderer; Puff, a round blue bird who learns to fly; or Scout, a pup who grows into Ranger. Once in a while an egg hatches shiny. Each friend grows through three forms as your steps add up.

Its mood follows your day: a little peckish when you've been still, happy when you're on your way, round and content when you reach your goal, and fast asleep at night. It lives in a cozy house on a floating island with a koi pond and a waterfall, under a sky that turns from blue to dusk to lantern light.

Head out together and it trots beside you along a winding path, past bamboo and rice terraces, over little bridges, finding acorns and feathers in the grass while other walkers' pets pass by. Every walk is kept to look back on. And on Apple Watch, your tomo is always a glance away. Your steps stay on your device.

Foggo Apps is the independent studio of iOS developer and designer Charles Chiejina, maker of the walking apps Simply Step and StepPup. Step Tomo grew from a simple wish: that a daily walk could feel less like a number and more like time spent with a friend.
